How to use
Step 1: Fold
Fold Option 1 “U Fold“: Press the sides of the cup together and then fold it in half again forming a tight “U” shape.
Fold Option 2 “Push Down“: Place a finger on the top rim of the cup and press it down into the centre of the inside base to form a triangle. This makes the top rim much smaller to insert.
Step 2: Hold
Hold the folded sides firmly in place between your thumb and forefinger so that the curved edge is facing away from your palm.
Step 3: Insert
In a comfortable position (like squatting) and with your vaginal muscles relaxed, gently separate the labia with your free hand and then push the curved edge of the folded Stonesoup Fuchsia horizontally into the vaginal opening so that the bottom of the cup is about a 1/2 inch into the vagina.
Step 4: Removal
To remove, insert your thumb and forefinger into your vagina until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base of the cup to release the seal and continue to pull down to remove it. After the cup has been removed, empty the contents in the toilet, wash the cup well with warm water and a mild soap, and reinsert.
When to Empty
Stonesoup Fuchsia cup must be emptied, washed and reinserted at least 2 times a day (twice in a 24 hour period) and can be worn overnight without concern of leaking. Most women need only to empty it in the morning and again in the evening. For women with heavier flow, it is recommended to empty more frequently to avoid leakage.
In between cycles, sterilise the cup by dipping in hot water or drying in the sun.
Frequently asked questions on menstrual cups:
Q1: Is it really safe to insert the cup?
Menstrual cups are generally a very safe option for period care. Stonesoup Wings is made from medical-grade silicone which is an inert material and there is no rash and chafing that one faces with sanitary pads.
Q2: How often do I need to empty the cup?
StoneSoup Wings cup must be emptied, washed and reinserted at least 2 times a day (twice in a 24 hour period) and can be worn overnight without concern of leaking. By monitoring the fullness of the cup over a couple of cycles, you will quickly learn how often to empty it according to your specific needs. Most women find that the cup is not even half full after 12 hours. For those with heavier flows, the cup is simply emptied more often.
Q3: Does it leak?
If inserted correctly it will not leak. If it has not been placed properly, or if it is full, it may leak. However, in most cases, the leaks are spotting and once habituated to using the cup, are totally avoidable.
Q4: If I insert the cup too deep, will it get lost inside my body?
It is impossible for the cup to get lost inside the body. Women with high-cervix might find it a little tricky to locate the cup.In such cases, sit in squat position and try to bear down as you would do to pass the motion. This act of bearing down helps slide the cup down so it can be removed easily.
Q5: I have an IUD, can I use the cup?
Yes, you can use the cup while having an IUD, however, ensure the thread (if any) is shortened so it doesn’t get dislodged. We recommend that you consult your gynaecologist.
Q6: Can I use it in place of maternity pads?
Post delivery the vagina may be swollen and bruised. Inserting a cup at this time is not advisable.
Safer: Conventional sanitary napkins and tampons are a cocktail of plastics and chemicals – fragrances, bleaches, softeners – that come in contact with sensitive, highly absorbent parts of a woman’s body. The rash, irritation, redness and allergies we experience during our periods can be linked to the use of plastic pads. With long term use, plastic pads are known to cause a variety of illnesses in women. Stonesoup Wings is made from health grade silicone and is safe for your delicate skin. Say goodbye to harmful chemicals and skin irritations caused by pads and tampons!
Eco-friendly: On average, a woman disposes 16,000 used pads in her lifetime – all of which will remain in the environment for hundreds of years! By contrast, menstrual cups are 100% reusable. No rash, no trash.
Comfortable: Don’t let your periods cramp your style. You can safely wear a menstrual cup and go swimming, running, cycling, gymming and do yoga without any discomfort or fear of spillage. They are also compact and easy to carry in your bag when you go to work or travel.
Economical: One Stonesoup Wings Green cup can be used up to 10 years. Instead of spending money on disposable sanitary pads/tampons month after month, The cup will save you from the regular expense.
